Gary Schuelke

Lieutenant Gary Schuelke has been employed with the City of San Bernardino Police Department for 27 years. He has held various assignments, including patrol operations, narcotics officer, narcotics K-9 handler, Crimes Against Children detective and homicide detective. He was promoted to sergeant in 2006. Since then, he has been directly involved in and coordinated multiple critical incidents ranging from officer-involved shootings to mass casualty incidents. He has supervised various proactive/specialized details such as Vice/ Narcotics, Crime Impact Team and District Resource Officers. He was assigned as the Vice/Narcotics Unit Supervisor from November 2012 until January 2017. During that time, he and his team were responsible for covert surveillance of various fugitives and/or suspects in addition to narcotics enforcement. He is currently assigned as a watch commander, overseeing two patrol shifts. On December 2, 2015, Lieutenant Schuelke and members of the Narcotics Unit were involved in identifying, locating and capturing the two suspects responsible for the terrorist attack on the Inland Regional Center. He travels extensively, providing a debrief on the terror attack and the lessons he and his agency learned from that incident.
