Jared Nixon

Mr. Nixon received a Bachelor's degree from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1999, and a Juris Doctorate from Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut, in 2005, where he received a full academic scholarship, graduated in Magna Cum Laude, in the top 10% of his class, and served as the Executive Managing Editor of the law review. After law school, Mr. Nixon accepted a clerkship with the Honorable Robert Wedemeyer of the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals in Nashville, Tennessee, where he drafted over 500 pages of opinions and edited thousands more, honing his knowledge of substantive and procedural criminal law. Upon completion of the clerkship, Mr. Nixon received a Master's degree in governmental administration from the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he received a full academic scholarship and focused on finance, economics, and budgeting. Upon graduation from the University of Pennsylvania Mr. Nixon accepted employment as an Assistant State Attorney at the Miami Dade State Attorney's Office, in Miami, Florida. He has been an Assistant State Attorney for nearly a decade. During this time he have reviewed close to 5000 arrest affidavits, drafted roughly 500 search warrants, documented over 200 confidential informants, and tried over 100 cases, including murders, armed robberies, drug trafficking offenses, and myriad other serious felonies. In addition, from March 2011 through February 2015, Mr. Nixon served as supervisor in the Narcotics Trafficking Unit, where he was responsible for overseeing the prosecutions being handled by 21 subordinate prosecutors. Moreover, during his time in the Narcotics Trafficking Unit, he also served as a liaison to the United States Attorney's Office, where he was responsible for presenting cases to his federal counterparts for indictment and coordinating joint state-federal long-term investigations. Mr. Nixon's work in the Narcotics Trafficking Unit resulted in the seizure of tens of thousands of pounds of cannabis, hundreds of kilograms of cocaine, and tens of millions of dollars. He is currently assigned to the South Florida Money Laundering Strike Force, which is joint state-federal initiative sponsored by HIDTA, where he is responsible for both civil forfeitures and criminal prosecutions. Additionally, Mr. Nixon serves as a member of the State Attorney's Office's Hiring Committee and a member of the Wiretap Review Committee.
