Nico Melendez

Nico Melendez has more than 25 years as a professional broadcaster/communicator. As a trained journalist and graduate of the Defense Information School, Melendez has spent almost three decades in a military uniform telling the Navy story. From the deck of a aircraft carrier flight deck to the shores of Hawaii or the mountains of Afghanistan, he has worked with professional journalists and media outlets for years to improve his tactics as a professional communicator.

As a civilian, Melendez served for 17 years at the Department of Homeland Security and Transportation Security Administration tackling some of the most significant national security issues in front of a camera. During his career, he was interviewed almost 15,000 times, hosted hundreds of media events and has been quoted in almost every media outlet in the country. Most significantly, Nico helped his agency explain the deployment of the new "Body Scanners" at airports, the implementation of the liquid ban in 2006 and dealt with the crisis of a TSA officer being shot and killed at Los Angeles International Airport. His work with both local, state and federal law enforcement organizations gives him a unique view on law enforcement relationships with the media.
